CREA Annual Meeting Features Speakers, Meetings with Legislators

March 1, 2012

The Colorado Rural Electric Association annual meeting concluded Tuesday following four days of activities. Approximately 150 electric co-op directors, managers, employees and spouses attended the meeting that featured Director training courses, a banquet and fundraiser for our political action committee, a vendor expo, Co-op Day at the Capitol, our annual legislative reception, and top-notch speakers. The co-op representatives heard from Colorado Attorney General John Suthers, CFC Governor and CEO Sheldon Petersen, CoBank Chief Banking Officer Mary McBride, Tri-State CEO Ken Anderson, and a panel of experts discussing the integration of renewable energy into the grid, among others.

The co-op reps had a chance to mingle with twenty members of the Colorado General Assembly during our legislative reception to talk about bills currently working their way through the legislature. Our folks were recognized on the floor of the Colorado House of Representatives as Rep. Jerry Sonnenberg read a tribute to the electric co-op program. We appreciate Rep. Sonnenberg’s support of Colorado’s electric co-ops.

We also appreciate all of the participants at the silent and live auction Sunday evening that raised over $25,000 for the political action committee. In this election year, we will be active identifying and supporting candidates that support the electric co-op program and our desire to maintain our autonomy and independence. All in all, we had a very successful annual meeting that was made possible by the support of our partners like Tri-State, CFC, CoBank, Federated and Western United, but also by the commitment of our electric co-op leaders who came to Denver to demonstrate our collective strength to our political leaders.
