Pam Patton: Great Choice for Colorado PUC

June 18, 2012

We applaud Governor Hickenlooper’s recent appointment of Pam Patton as the next Commissioner on the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. Pam, who lives in Bayfield, has been a director on the La Plata Electric Association Board of Directors for the last twelve years. She has also been a director on the board of FastTrack Communications, a telecom subsidiary of LPEA. Her experience with these two companies, plus her prior military experience and educational background, make her an excellent choice for the Commission.

As a co-op director, Pam has a unique perspective on the complicated business of electricity delivery and the challenges faced by utilities to keep the lights on and the bills affordable. The electric co-op business model emphasizes a concern for community, and that concern is best expressed in terms of reliable, low-cost, and environmentally responsible power. Along with her fellow LPEA board members and management, Pam has been on the front lines of this co-op commitment to community for many years.

It’s unfortunate that some folks in the environmental community have reached conclusions about Pam without the benefit of a single conversation with her.  The simple fact is that Pam will be a strong consumer advocate, finding the appropriate balance between affordable power and environmental impacts.

Colorado’s electric co-ops are proud that Pam has been appointed to the Commission and we wish her the best in her new position.
