CREA Annual Meeting: See You There!

February 1, 2013

We hope you all are planing on attending the CREA Annual Meeting that will run from Saturday, February 9 through Tuesday, February 12. The meeting will include educational opportunities, a full day of legislative activities, and a chance to mingle with your co-op colleagues from across the state.

In addition to the weekend classes on Understanding the Electric Business and Your Board’s Culture, our attorney Tom Dougherty will facilitate a seminar on the fiduciary duties of co-op directors. This is always an interesting topic and Tom does a great job explaining how those duties apply in the co-op world. We’ll have a banquet Sunday evening, February 10, with guest speaker Jim Davidson who will tell us about his harrowing ¬†mountain climbing experiences and the life lessons he learned.

On Monday, we’ll make our traditional trip to the Colorado Capitol and visit with our state representatives and senators. Former LPEA Director and current PUC Commissioner Pam Patton will also join us that morning to talk about her transition from co-op director to utility regulator. Our luncheon speaker will be CU Professor Roger Pielke, Jr., who will give his unique perspective on climate change impacts and policy. We’ll also have speakers talking about western slope biomass and natural gas development, as well as a discussion about energy policy with Stuart Sanderson of the Colorado Mining Association and Pete Maysmith with Conservation Colorado.

We will host a legislative reception Monday evening, which is a great opportunity for everyone to chat with your legislators about issues that are important to electric co-ops. It’s also a good time to meet new legislators and introduce them to the electric co-op program.

We’ll wrap up the meeting Tuesday morning with reports from CFC, CoBank, Tri-State, NRECA, and other affiliated groups along with my CREA update. The meeting will conclude with a luncheon hosted by Western United Electric Supply.

We look forward to seeing all our friends, and wish you safe travels on your way to and from Denver!
